81.6 million admissions for the first five months of 2013

- Fluctuations continue for the number of admissions in French cinemas, with a rise in May which limits the damage as compared with 2012

After a drop of 10.6 % in January and 21 % in February, an improvement in March of +15.5 % and another decline of 19.7% in April, the month of May injected a fresh shot of adrenalin into attendance figures for French theatres with 17.51 million spectators giving a 7.8 % rise, according to estimates published by the CNC. It is worth mentioning that it is the second best month of May for cinemas in 34 years and the appearance of monthly statistics, trailing just behind the 18.4 million chalked up in 2006.

The total numbers for the first five months of 2013 adds up to 81.6 million admissions, which is 6.5% less than for the same period in 2012.

As for market shares, French films account for 39.7 % in 2013 versus 50 % for American productions and 10.3 % for feature films from other countries.
