Two Swiss films receive Student Academy Awards
- Silver and Bronze awards for the Swiss laureates of the Student Oscars
Two Swiss short films received a prize each on June 8th at the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre in Beverly Hills, on the occasion of the highly renowned Student Academy Award. The director Talkhon Hamzavi of Iranian origin won the silver medal for the Best Foreign Film with Parvaneh, a 24-minute film which she directed as her end-of-studies film at the Haute Ecole d’Art in Zurich. Parvaneh tells the story of a 17 year-old asylum-seeker of Afghan origin, who leaves a refugee centre to go to Zurich in order to send money to her family.
In the «Narrative» category, Mauro Mueller was awarded the bronze medal for her 15-minute film, Un mundo para Raúl, her end-of-studies project at Columbia University in New York, coproduced by Contrast Film (Zurich). This Student Oscar is already her ninth award.
It is the first time two Swiss films are rewarded during the same year in this competition.
