Sous le figuier, a summer nap
- Bringing together Gisèle Casadesus, Jonathan Zaccaï, Anne Consigny and Marie Kremer, Sous le figuier marks the return of Anne-Marie Etienne after Perfect Match...
Today, Belgian theatres will see the release of Sous le figuier [+see also:
film profile], which marks the return of Franco-Belgian director and actress Anne-Marie Etienne behind the camera. She took her first steps in television in the '80s, before directing her first feature film in 1990, Un été après l’autre. The same year, she co-wrote Un weekend sur deux with Nicole Garcia, then regularly returned before and behind the camera. Her last film, the romantic comedy Perfect Match... [+see also:
film profile], brought together Carole Bouquet and Marc Lavoine in 2007. As Sous le figuier is being released, she is already getting ready to film her next movie, Tu l’appelleras Jeanne, with Sandrine Bonnaire and Marie Gillain.
In Sous le figuier, she calls upon the wisdom of Gisèle Casadesus, who acts as a kind of natural anti-anxiolitic for a trio of adults (Jonathan Zaccaï, Anne Consigny and Marie Kremer) who are going through sentimental, personal and professional crises. By prescribing naïve but irresistible remedies – partying, having a nap under a tree -, the old lady restores these three confused adults’ love of simple things: in a way, a summer tale beneath the fig tree.
Produced by Mact Production in France, the film has also been funded by the duo Tarantula Belgique/ Tarantula Luxembourg. It has also received backing from the Film Fund Luxembourg, Wallimage/ Bruxellimage, as well as a Tax Shelter investment. Sous le figuier is therefore the second offensive to be launched by Tarantula Distribution on the Belgian market after Hors les murs [+see also:
