Tom Tykwer brings A Hologram for the King to the big screen

, German director Tom Tykwer will be making another big German-US coproduction. With A Hologram for the King [+see also:

, he will bring the novel by the award-winning American author Dave Eggers to the screen.  The most recent book by the Pultzer Award finalist competed for the National Book Award and made its way onto the bestseller list of the New York Times.

The story of A Hologram for the King focuses on a struggling businessman in a rising Saudi Arabian city, far from weary, recession-scarred America, who pursues a last-ditch attempt to stave off foreclosure, pay his daughter's college tuition, and finally do something great. Tom Tykwer also wrote the script.

Academy-award winner Tom Hanks, who can be seen in the upcoming film Saving Mr. Banks, will play the title role and also came on board as a producer of the film. The producers from Berlin-based X Filme Creative Pool are Stefan Arndt (Cloud Atlas, Amour [+see also:

), Uwe Schott (Cloud Atlas, Ich & Kaminsky) and Tom Tykwer while  Gary Goetzman (Larry Crowne, Mamma Mia) from Playtone joins them as further partner from the US. The talent ageny CAA, which represents Hanks, Eggers and Tykwer, will raise the financing for the project. Dave Eggers is also repped by Lindsay Williams from the Gotham Group.

The distribution in Germany will be handled by X Verleih.
