The film which stars Fionnula Flanagan, Stephen Rea, Claudia Bassols, Jan Cornet, Rodrigo Cortés and Togo Igawa, is a romantic ensemble comedy devoted to the beauty of love, food and the Mediterranean way of life. The festival will close with Stephen Brown’s The Sea, starring Ciarán Hinds, Charlotte Rampling, Natascha McElhone, Rufus Sewell, Bonnie Wright and Sinéad Cusack, where a man confronts the ghosts of his distant past.
Zachary Quinto (Star Trek Into Darkness) will be the subject of this year’s acting masterclass, Daniel Waters (Sex And Death 101) the screenwriting masterclass and Julien Temple (London – The Modern Babylon) the directing masterclass. Actress Saoirse Ronan will be a guest of honour at the festival and will also participate in a public interview.
The nominees for this year’s Bingham Ray New Talent Award are: actor Kelly Thornton for Life’s a Breeze, director Steph Green for Run & Jump, writer Ailbhe Keogan for Run & Jump, producer Emmet Fleming for Out of Here and cinematographer Eimear Ennis Graham for Cold.
The Staffordshire University will bestow the award of Honorary Doctor upon Miriam Allen, co-founder and managing director of the Galway Film Fleadh.
Allen said, “The Fleadh is continually adapting as it grows, hosting innovative events such as the 72 hour film project, a Staffordshire University initiative; the Pitching Award, which offers budding scriptwriters the opportunity to develop their projects, and a Masterclass programme which provides peer-to-peer interaction between young and established filmmakers.”
