Mexico stands out in Munich

- The 31st Munich International Film Festival rewarded two Mexican films, Heli and Halley, as well as Slovakian director Mira Fornay. In the New German Cinema section, Love Steaks triumphed

, by Mexican director Amat Escalante, which won the Arri/Osram Prize in the CineMasters competition, worth 50,000 euros.

The CineVision Prize, and its 12,000 euros from distributor Senator, which rewards the best new foreign talent and ensures the winner a good visibility in Germany, was shared between two films which, according to the jury, “courageously bring light to a current socio-political reality while at the same time evoking the essential conditions for human existence”: My Dog Killer [+see also:

by Slovakian director Mira Fornay, about a young man who becomes a skinhead out of idleness and finds himself stuck in between his violence and the possibility of finally creating family ties, and Dutch coproduction Halley by Mexican director Sebastián Hofmann.

The Prizes for new German talents, which represent a total of 70,000 euros and reward the Best New Director, Screenwriter, Emerging Producer and Actor, were all won by the torrid Love Steaks [+see also:
