(coup de cœur of the Panorama of the Berlinale 2011). According to the producer, Bénédicte Couvreur (who has been by Céline Sciamma’s side since her first feature film), Bande de filles, whose cast is made up of unknown young women between the ages of 16 and 20, will be the third part of a trilogy about childhood and adolescence before the director probably moves on to new themes.

Written by Céline Sciamma, the screenplay focuses on Marieme, 16, who lives her life as a succession of prohibitions. The censorship exercised by the neighbourhood, the law laid down by boys, the dead end of school... But her encounter with a group of girls who have claimed their freedom changes everything. She embraces the codes of the street, violence, friendship, to live her youth.

Produced by Hold Up Films, Bande de filles is coproduced by Arte France Cinéma. Backed by an advance on receipts, the Ile-de-France region and the Sofica Cofinova, the film was also pre-purchased by Canal+ and Ciné+. The filming will last seven and a half weeks and the feature film should be ready by spring 2014. The French distribution will be handled by Pyramide and international sales by Films Distribution.

Hold Up Films also handles Senseï (provisional title) in writing, the future first feature film by Damien Manivel (who is writing the screenplay with Thomas Cailley, who will be starting in August the shooting of his own first feature film as a director, Les combattants, produced by Nord Ouest Films – read the article).
