Death of Alberto Farassino
by Cineuropa
Writer and film critic, Alberto Farassino, died yesterday, 31 March, in Milan at the age of 58. He was a professor of the theory, technique and language of film at the Universities of Genoa, Trieste and Pavia, and also contributed regularly to Italian daily newspaper, La Repubblica and its online publication, Kataweb Cinema (readers will find a small anthology of Farassino’s work in today's edition).
Farassino was known for his willingness and openness to listen to other people’s opinions and to that end he regularly organised forums about cinema in Milan. He was also involved with numerous film festivals like RiminiCinema, Mystfest and Bellaria. He also wrote some excellent books about the films of his favourite director, Jean-Luc Godard, as well as Bunuel, Ruiz, Gitai, Italian Silent Films and Neorealism.
