by French director and screenwriter Patrice Leconte (out of competition) and four new titles for the out of competition and Venice Classics sections have been added to the programme of the 70th edition of the Venice Film Festival (August 28-September 7). The collective film Venezia 70 - Future Reloaded, made up of seventy shorts between 60-90 seconds long made by directors from around the world to celebrate the festival’s 70th anniversary, will be the second opening film screened during the inaugural evening following Gravity by Alfonso Cuarón.

Une promesse, written by the director with Jérôme Tonnerre will be presented in a global premiere. Based on a story by Stefan Zweig, it is set in pre-World War I Germany and is based on a woman who falls in love with a rich and powerful industry man who is also one of her husband’s business acquaintances. The cast includes Rebecca Hall (photo), Alan Rickman and Richard Madden.

Three new documentaries have also been inserted into the programme: Double Play: James Benning and Richard Linklater by Gabe Klinger (Venice Classics); Donne nel mito: Anna Magnani by Marco Spagnoli; Dai nostri inviati - La Rai racconta la Mostra del Cinema 1980-1989 by Enrico Salvatori, Giuseppe Giannotti, Davide Savelli (out of competition – special screening). Gideon Bachmann will be presenting (complete with live commentary) Dietro le quinte di 8 e mezzo, 170 snap-shots of himself made as he made his Fellini masterpiece (out of competition – special screening). This will complete the Fellini homage day, set for September 6, which will also host the global premiere of Ettore Scola’s latest film, Che strano chiamarsi Federico [+see also:
