In Bloom wins the Heart of Sarajevo for best film; Cineuropa prize goes to With Mom

After nine days of films, meetings, pitching sessions and seminars, the Sarajevo Film Festival came to a close on Saturday, August 24. “This year’s nine most beautiful days,” according to Denis Tanović, president of the official jury, who thanked the organisers of the event with these words, paying special tribute to their professionalism, efficiency and good humour.

Joining Tanović, the official jury was made up of Serb actor Uliks Fehmiu, German Christine A. Maier, Romanian actress Mirela Oprisor and Charles Tesson, the artistic director of Cannes’ Critics Week.  The jury chose to give the Heart of Sarajevo to beautiful In Bloom [+see also:

by directors Nana Ekvtimishvili and Simon Groß, a coproduction between Georgia, France and Germany, which had its international premiere during the course of the Berlin Film Festival.

The two young stars from In Bloom, Lika Babluani and Mariam Bokeria, were collectively awarded best actress, while Croatian actor Bogdan Diklić won the Heart of Sarajevo for his performance in A Stranger [+see also:

The jury in the short section chose to honour Romanian Radu Jude for his Shadow of a Cloud, and made two special mentions: Rabittland by Serb Ana Nedeljković and Nikola Majdak, and Pride by Bulgarian Pavel G. Vesnakov. The award for best documentary was given to Austrian Juri Rechinsky for his film Sickfuckpeople.

The jury for the Cineuropa Prize, made up of Alberto la Monica (director of the Lecce European Film Festival) and Elisa Cimino (Cineuropa.org), chose to recognise touching With Mom [+see also:

by Bosnian director Faruk Lončaverić. This coproduction between Bosnia-Herzegovina, Germany and Slovenia tells the story of a Sarajevo family torn apart by the imminent death of a cancer-ridden mother. Cineuropa met the festival’s director, Mirsad Purivatra, who declared himself fully satisfied by the 2013 edition: with the presence of 1,378 industry workers and more than 800 media representatives from 32 countries, this 19th edition beat records from previous years, thanks to a rich selection of films in a variety of sections and the numerous activities organised by Cinelink, the coproduction market at the Sarajevo festival.
