Vilnius International Film Festival to launch new Baltic competition

The Vilnius International Film Festival have announced the launch of a new competition that will focus on films from countries from the Baltic Sea area, namely Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, the Russian Federation and Sweden. The competition will complement the festival’s New Europe - New Names competition, which focuses on debut Central/Eastern European filmmakers.

Beginning during the 2014 edition of the festival located in the capital of Lithuania – due to be held between March 21 and April 3 – the ‘Baltic Gaze’ will consist of features and documentaries over 60 minutes that have yet to premiere in Lithuania.  Eligible films must be made after January 1st, 2013 and winners will be selected by an international jury.

The Vilnius International Film Festival has become an increasingly important stop on the festival circuit over the past few years, boasting a large programme and full audiences alongside an industry section that is beginning to become a crucial source of information and networking for movies coming out of Central and Eastern Europe.

Full rules and regulations for the Baltic Gaze competition can be found here.
