German filmmaker Philip Gröning is already shooting his next feature Mein Bruder heißt Robert und ist ein Idiot for which he wrote the script together with German actress Sabine Timoteo. “This is a very philosophical story about the farewell to the common childhood of identical twins,” explains Gröning who had to take a break after 12 shooting days to attend the Venice film festival. “My new film is the complete opposite to The Police Officer’s Wife which we shot without a script.” The main location of his coming-of-age drama is a gas station in the country, which is located in Baden-Württemberg. The cast includes Josef Mattes and Julia Zange, author of the bestseller Die Anstalt der besseren Mädchen, as twins, as well as Sabine Timoteo.

Produced as a German-French coproduction by Philip Gröning Filmproduktion, Bavaria Pictures and L Films, Mein Bruder heißt Robert und ist ein Idiot received production support from the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, German Federal Film Board (FFA), BKM, Medien- and Fimgesellschaft Baden-Württemberg, and Eurimages.
