Heartless stays in Denmark, thanks to the new Copenhagen Film Fund
- Danish director Natasha Arthy’s new TV project – “a path-breaking fantasy youth series with a major international potential” – is inspired by vampire mythology and such US films as the Twilight Saga and True Blood
Discussed for the last 10 years before it was finally established, the new Copenhagen Film Fund has had its first board meeting to adopt terms and conditions and to approve its first project, Danish director Natasha Arthy’s (photo) new television series Heartless,which Danish production outfit Fridthjof Film will produce for Kanal5-SBS Broadcasting Group.
“I look forward to the work of attracting exciting international productions to the Greater Copenhagen are, and keeping local productions in Denmark – without the fund’s support Arthy’s path-breaking fantasy youth series with major international potential would have been shot in Hungary,” said newly appointed CEO, Danish producer Thomas Gammeltoft.
The third regional film fund in Denmark – after FilmFyn at Faaborg and the West-Danish Film Fund in Aarhus – the new Copenhagen Film Fund has a €4.7 million budget for the next 2½ years, provided by the City of Copenhagen, the municipalities of Albertslund, Ballerup, Brøndby, Frederiksberg, Furesø, Helsingør, Hvidovre and private investors.

film profile] (2007) directed several TV series, including episodes for The Killing, will this time film a script by Nikolaj Scherfig and Morten Dragsted about siblings Sebastian and Sophie who are cursed: they have to suck life out of others to live. Inspired by vampire mythology and such US films as the Twilight Saga and True Blood, starring Sebastian Jessen and Julie Zangenberg, Heartless has received €925,000 in production funding from the Danish Film Institute.
