With his new movie Desaster, German actor, writer/ director and producer Justus von Dohnányi (notbaly seen in The Experiment, Oh Boy [+see also:

film profile]) is shooting once again a dead black gangster comedy in the style of his surprising feature debut Bis zum Ellenbogen. After the principal photography of Desaster began in St. Tropez at the beginning of September, the production team now moves to Germany where the comedy will be shot in Berlin and Hamburg until the end of October.

The story starts rolling with a Swiss lawyer who is invited by a ruthless gangster boss to Mallorca where he hopes to spend the night with the attractive wife of his host. Of course he has no idea that she is assigned to make him reveal the names of some key witnesses. But the lawyer also has a plan and hired two petty criminals in order to part the gangster boss from his cash. Unfortunately, the small-time crooks make some irreversible mistakes. When one of them throws the mother of the gangster boss from the balcony, the disaster takes its course.

Besides Justus von Dohnányi as one of the small-time criminals the cast includes Jan Josef Liefers (The Baader Meinhof Complex [+see also:

film profile]), Anna Loos (Anatomy) Milan Peschel (Stopped on Track [+see also:

film profile]), and Stefan Kurt (Four Minutes [+see also:

film profile]). The comedy is produced by Schiwago Film which already delivered German film hits such as Muxmäusschenstill and Oh Boy which competes for the audience award at the European Film Awards.

Justus von Dohnányi’s Ellenbogen Film, Radio Doria Film and Studiocanal act as production partners. Desaster received production support from Medienboard Berlin Brandenburg, Filmförderung Hamburg-Schleswig-Holstein, and the Federal Film Board. The leading TV partner is Hessische Rundfunk in collaboration with Arte. Studiocanal plans to release Desaster in summer 2014.
