28/10/2013 - The director of Nell'anno del Signore and In nome del Papa Re was 85

Luigi Magni passed away this weekend in Rome. He was 85 years old. A screenwriter, scriptwriter and director, he put his name to numerous films telling the story of his native city: Nell'anno del signore, In nome del Papa re, Tosca.

Magni began his career in 1956, writing scripts for the films of great directors including Mastrocinque, Bianchi, Lizzani, Lattuada, Monicelli. In 1969, with Nell’anno del signore, he began a three decade long artistic collaboration with Nino Manfredi. His last film was La Carbonara in 2000.

In 2008, Magni was given the David di Donatello award for his career, celebrating his 80^th birthday, as well as his 40 years as a director.
