FremantleMedia buys Denmark’s Miso Film to strengthen its Nordic position

Currently in production with Danish director Ole Bornedal’s1864 (photo) – a €23 million feature and television series in collaboration with Danish pubcaster DR - Danish producers Jonas Allen and Peter Bose have sold a 51% stake of their company, Miso Film, to Germany’s FremantleMedia, controlled by Europe’s largest broadcaster, Bertelsmann-SE’s RTL Group.
“This is a milestone in building our prime time scripted business and strengthening our position in the Scandinavian market,” said FremantleMedia ceo Cecile Frot-Coutaz. ”Allen and Bose’s talent and strong track record in high end drama, with their current slate, makes Miso a perfect fit for us and complements our business in the US, Germany and Australia.”
"Partnering with FremantleMedia is an important step forward in our growth strategy - we strongly believe it will be a key driver for our expansion in the Scandinavian market and release the potential of our productions internationally,” added the two Danish producers who started the company in 2004, and who have launched such Nordic TV series as Those Who Kill and Dicte.
Bornedal is currently editing the feature and eight-part television series mainly shot in the Czech Republic, set on the backdrop of the Danish-German war in 1864, when Prussian and Austrian armies massacred the Danish troops in the battle of Dybbøl on April 18. The historical drama includes the triangle story of two brothers, who are in love with Inge – and she loves them both.
Based on Danish historian Tom Buk-Swienty’sbest-selling books about the war, 1864 follows Miso Film’s Dicte, aired by TV2 Denmark – with Season 2 in the pipeline – TV2 Norway, TV4 Sweden, and Those Who Kill, which A&E Networks has picked up for a US remake.
