21/11/2013 - Two fantastic film festivals (Montreal and Brussels) are joining forces to create the first transatlantic coproduction market for genre films

The Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFF) is joining the Montreal Fantasia International Film Festival to set up the first transatlantic coproduction market dedicated to genre films. The Frontières International Co-Production Market, which already took place twice in Canada, is thus expanding its activities to Europe. Its 3^rd edition will take place from April 10-12, as part of the BIFFF. It will be open to feature length genre films from the US, Canada and Europe, with European elements (filming location, cast, post-production team). The 12 selected projects, which must not have been presented in coproduction markets before, will already have a screenplay ready and should be submitted by a producer – an exception can be made for experienced directors who can submit a developed script summary in their name. The call for applications will close on December 20.

Frontières wants to be a unique meeting point at the heart of Europe, where project holders can encounter co-producers as well as financiers, sellers, distributors, and services and post-production companies. During the first two editions, the market welcomed both prestigious authors and promising rising talents, including Joe Dante (Gremlins), Andrzej Zulaswki (Possession), Bruce McDonald (Pontypool), Stuart Gordon (Re-Animator), Bobcat Goldthwait (God Bless America), Jorge Michel Grau (We Are What We Are), Jason Lapeyre (I Declare War), Richard Stanley (Hardware), Paul Campion (The Devil’s Rock), Robert Morgan (Bobby Yeah) and Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead (Resolution).

Fantasia and the BIFFF work with Vision-in-Motion for the organisation of this market, with the backing of Media Mundus, Visit Brussel / Brussel Film Office, Telefilm Canada and the Sodec. The fourth edition is scheduled for July in Montreal.
