will be world-premiered by Nordisk Film Biografdistribution in 26 Danish cinemas on December 25 - in a two-part, four-hour version, which von Trier has not seen. For the first time the director has left the final cut for one of his films with the editor, Molly Malene Stensgaard.

“Von Trier’s own original version was 5½ hours long, but he has accepted the abridged release, because he understands market mechanisms. You cannot produce an €8 million movie and deliver a 5½-hour result without the investors feeling they have been had,” explained Danish producer and ceo of Zentropa Entertainments, Peter Aalbæk Jensen.

From the beginning Nymphomaniac was planned as one feature, to be edited in two versions, one long and hardcore, the other softer and less sexually explicit. Now the two-part, four-hour movie is ready for world-wide release, while the long cut is still in post - in Denmark Part 1 and Part 2 will screen one after the other. It has not been rated, but will expectedly receive 15+.

), Canada (Mongrel Media), most of Europe - UK/Ireland (Artificial Eye), Germany/Austria (Concorde), France (Les Films du Losange), CIS (Central Partnership) - adding Brazil (California) and Australia/NZ (Transmission).

French actress Charlotte Gainsbourg stars as the self-confessed nymphomaniac who describes her erotic experiences to the man (Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgård), who saves her after she has been beaten up. The all-star ensemble cast comprises Shia LaBeouf, Christian Slater, Jamie Bell, Uma Thurman and Connie Nielsen.

Von Trier’s 12th feature is produced by Louise Vesth, for Zentropa, with Bettina Brokemper for Zentropa-Köln, Marianne Slot for Slot Machine-Paris, Bert Hamelinck for Caviar-Bruxelles, Arte France Cinéma and Swedish regional film centre, Film i Väst. It is yet to be decided where it will have its international festival launch.
