, co-directed by David Marqués and Rafa Montesinos, filming for which took place over four weeks this fall in Valencia and Madrid (in the latter in working class neighbourhoods such as Carabanchel and Vallecas).

The cast is headed by famous (especially with female audiences) Hugo Silva, who plays Pasca, a former boxer nearing 40 who works as a sparring partner, taking hits from younger boxers with their careers ahead of them. He takes care of his brother Toni, who is bound to a wheel chair and together they have a relationship of fake dependence. Tied down by his life, and overcome by desperation and crisis, he seeks to wake up from his nightmare as a new young female teacher arrives in the neighbourhood.

Dioses y perros, a fifth feature length film by Marques, and Montesinos’ first also stars Megan Montaner, Elio González, Ricard Sales, Juan Codina, Enrique Arce, Miriam Benoit and Víctor Palmero.

The story is based on a story by Jesús Martínez and is produced by Kiko Martínez for Nadie es perfecto with support from the Ministry of Culture, Televisión Valenciana and the Instituto Valenciano del Audiovisual.

According to the production, Dioses y perros tells “the story of two brothers who rely on each other. It is the story of two friends tied by betrayal and loyalty at the same time from the beginning. It is the story of two people who get to know each other and become each other’s saviours and hopes. It is a story full of contradictory stories and relationships.” The film has been defined as “a social drama, which mixes comedy and drama, action and costumes, hope and desperation.”
