Box office and film admissions down, but British creative industries are booming
- Creative industries are worth £71.4 billion per year to the UK economy with a growth rate of almost 10%

UK box office in 2013 totalled £1,082,100,621, down 1.6% from 2012, according to data released by industry analysts Rentrak. UK admissions for 2013 were at 165,539,576, a fall of 4%.
Cinema Exhibitors’ Association CEO Phil Clapp said, “It’s clear that 2013 presented tough trading conditions for the sector and the record-breaking exploits of Skyfall [+see also:

film profile] at the tail-end of that year meant that 2012 was always going to be a tough act to follow. However December showed a definite upturn - up 9% on the same month last year - and with a particularly strong array of films lining up for the upcoming BAFTAs there is every hope that the sector will continue to perform well in 2014.”
The UK’s Department for Culture, Media and Sport painted a rosier picture and reports that the UK’s creative industries, which includes the film, television and music industries, are now worth £71.4 billion per year to the UK economy.
