FUNDING Denmark

Pubcasters sign production deal

by

Denmark’s two state broadcasters, Denmarks Radio (DR) and TV2 Denmark, have signed a contract with the national Producers’ Association and the Danish Film Institute that outlines the way they spend their mandatory annual investment of Dkr60m (Euros8m) in local film production. The agreement will be in place from 2003 to 2006.
According to the new rules, the broadcasters must co-finance up to 20 per cent of the budgets of between 16 to 20 feature film projects every year. The Danish broadcasters’ annual investment obligations to film production were set by the 2002-06 Media Agreement, and raised last autumn from the initial Dkr40m (Euros5.4m) to Dkr60m (Euros8m) to counterbalance the general reduction in direct government funding to the local film industry.
