The sixth edition of Les Arcs European Film Festival honours Ireland
- Les Arcs ski resort is to host the festival from 13-20 December 2014
Located in the heart of the Alps, the Les Arcs European Film Festival aims to promote the diversity of the European film industry and present new talents. It is also a chance to enjoy the first snowfalls and attend film screenings all day long in the presence of their directors and actors in a festive atmosphere.
Each year, the festival offers a venue for various national film industries. This sixth edition, organised in partnership with the Irish Film Board, will have Ireland as the guest of honour. Artistic director Frédéric Boyer asserts that this insight into Irish cinema will be a wonderful occasion to discover new talents and to showcase the work of established directors.
Furthermore, according to James Hickey, chief executive of the Irish Film Board, Irish producers are very active European co-production partners. He thinks that this focus on Ireland will highlight the strength and depth of Irish cinema and the creative talent of its industry.
The creators of the festival, Pierre-Emmanuel Fleurantin and Guillaume Calop, have announced that they are currently preparing a very rich programme, with recent Irish feature films, a selection of short films and a focus on co-productions with Ireland, which will help to make the country even more attractive for European co-productions. They thus hope to welcome the most prominent Irish film directors, actors and producers, who will present their projects and exchange ideas with professionals from all over the world.
