- The debut feature film by Attila Herczeg has surprised everyone by topping box-office charts ahead of the American blockbusters
There has been a surprisingly dazzling start in Hungarian cinemas for the romantic comedy What Ever Happened to Timi (Megdönteni Hajnal Tímeát). The debut feature film by Attila Herczeg has topped the Hungarian box-office charts after its first few days of screening, allowing itself the luxury of outpacing the American super-productions The LEGO Movie, Robocop and The Wolf of Wall Street, for example.
The cast of What Ever Happened to Timi brings together Andrea Osvárt (recently praised for her performance in Italian movie Anita B. [+see also:
film profile]), Kornél Simon (a famous star of Hungarian TV series who can also be seen in theatres later this year starring in Weekend by Áron Mátyássy), Simon Szabó, Tamás Lengyel, Adél Jordán and Iván Kamarás.
Written by Csaba Csurgó, the story begins at a high-school reunion. Dani was always the good boy at school and is about to get married. After a few glasses of wine, they fall into each other’s arms, which wouldn’t be so bad on the face of it, but there’s a tiny problem: Bögöcs, the bad boy of the class, has been recording everything on his mobile phone, and he’s thinking of using it to finally be able to fulfil his teenage dream - to sleep with Tímea. He threatens to show the video to Dani’s fiancée if he doesn’t take steps to set things up for him with Tímea. The pressure very quickly starts to have consequences for Dani’s relationship with his bride-to-be, as she starts to nag him chronically. The wedding is fast approaching, and Dani has to do something…
