was the overwhelming winner at the 2014 Academy Awards, soaring into space with seven of the most coveted statuettes in the film world including Best Director for Cuarón, who also shared the Film Editing award with Mark Sanger; Emmanuel Lubezki for Cinematography; Steven Price for Original Score; Skip Lievsay, Niv Adiri, Christopher Benstead and Chris Munro for Sound Mixing; Glenn Freemantle for Sound Editing; and Tim Webber, Chris Lawrence, David Shirk and Neil Corbould for Visual Effects.

was a distant runner up with three wins including Best Picture, Actress in a Supporting Role for Lupita Nyong’o, and Adapted Screenplay for John Ridley. As expected, Cate Blanchett, who has swept all before her this awards season, won Best Actress for Blue Jasmine. Matthew McConaughey, perhaps benefiting from his high visibility amongst Oscar voters for his starring turn in HBO’s hit show True Detective, won the Best Actor Oscar for Dallas Buyers Club.
