Hitler’s Last Days

Oliver Hirschbiegel who directed Das Experiment, one of Germany’s most successful films of recent years, is scheduled to begin a new feature about the final days of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi regime, later this year in August. Der Untergang is based on the best-seller by Joachim Fest about the diaries kept by Hitler’s secretary, Treidl Junge, (“Bis zur letzen Stunde”) and stars Bruno Ganz and Juliane Köhler (Nowhere in Africa, My First Miracle), with Maria Harfouch as Magda Goebbels, Ulrich Junge as Himmler and Alexandra Maria Lara as Traudl Junge. Some scenes of Der Untergang will be shot on location in St Petersburg where parts of bombed-out Berlin will be rebuilt. The film will be produced by Constantin with a Euros13.5m budget, with support from German pubcaster, ARD. Constantin will also distribute the film domestically in September 2004.
