In memoriam: Éva Vezér
- The former head of Magyar Filmunio, an undisputed authority within the Hungarian and European film industries, passed away last Friday
An iconic figure of Hungarian cinema has disappeared with the death of Éva Vezér, former executive director of Magyar Filmunio, and chair of European Film Promotion between 2009 and 2011. A veritable authority in her country’s film industry, she had worked in the sales department of Hungarofilm (Budapest Films), as the head of marketing at distributor UIP Duna Film, as head of acquisitions – and later head of programmes – at Duna Television, and heading up the first Media Desk in Hungary, among other roles.
During her ten-year tenure as executive director of Magyar Filmunio, the promotion agency for Hungarian cinema abroad, she had steered the development of a talented generation of young filmmakers (Kornel Mundruczo, György Palfi, Bence Fliegauf and Agnes Kocsis, to name but a few) until 2011, before bringing her expertise to the Europa Cinemas movie-theatre network. Among her myriad appearances taking part in various international events, one particular highlight was her membership of the Caméra d'Or jury at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival.
