DepicT!: a festival of minute-and-a-half-long films

A film in only 90 seconds? While many may think this is impossible, DepicT! has been proving them wrong since its creation in 1998. Organised by Bristol’s Cultural Cinema and Digital Creativity Centre Watershed as part of the Encounters Short Film & Animation Festival, DepicT! has opened this year’s edition’s call for entries, which will end on 7 July. The shortlisted filmmakers will be vying for a £2,500 prize as well as significant industry exposure during the Encounters Festival.

The 90-second limit is intended to encourage filmmakers’ creativity, while making it easier for them to be exposed to the industry: they will be able to benefit from being integrated into the festival’s network. Meanwhile, the audience will comprise distributors, producers and exhibitors, as well as fans of the short-film format. Creators will be able to send their works in, regardless of their budget, genre or origin, until the 7 July deadline.

The DepicT! initiative has seen some of its winners expand their talents to different film festivals all around the world. On the other hand, films longer than 90 seconds can be entered into the main Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival. For more information, check its website.
