film profile] was selected for competition at the Berlinale and is due to be screened at New York’s Tribeca Film Festival, will next adapt Norwegian author Karin Fossum’s bestseller The Indian Bride (2000) for the screen. 

While In Order of Disappearance was an action comedy, The Indian Bride is true crime: a Fossum thriller with police inspector Konrad Sejer on the case, this time investigating a case involving an Indian beauty who has been brutally murdered after having met and married a long-time bachelor. 

Shortlisted for the UK Crime Writers’ Association (CWA) Golden Dagger and awarded the Los Angeles Times’ Book Prize 2008, the novel is the fifth in the series about the rather atypical Nordic detective – a polite, mild-mannered widower, whose sole vice is the single hand-rolled cigarette and the glass of whiskey he allows himself at the end of the day, while he reflects on developments in the current enquiry.

Having already fed a four-part series for Norwegian pubcaster NRK, Sejer–Beloved Poona, with Bjørn Sundquist in the lead (which won the Norwegian film industry’s Gullruten Award for Best TV Drama), the novel will now be staged by Norwegian producer Yngve Sæther, of Motlys, and Swedish producer Helen Ahlsson, of Tre Vänner/Svensk Filmindustri. Scripted by Norwegian author Erlend Loe, it will shoot in Norway and India, and is scheduled for a June 2015 release.
