Encounters #4 BLS: French model, tax credit and digital platforms (2)
- The co-production meeting by the Alto Adige Film Commission this year pointed to new business models and on the French industry for inspiration on co-productions

Another key element to be brought up at the fourth edition of the encounters, the co-production meeting organised by the Film Commission of South Tyrol- Alto Adige, was the growing phenomenon of digital platforms, seen today as potential distributors and producers of audiovisual content. The topic was developed over the course of two separate panels. The first was entitled “The Digital Universe 1: Green-lighting the future and time to mature” and featured Sebastian Becker (tbb – thebrainbehind GmbH), Marcus Ammon (Sky Germany), Federica Tremolada (YouTube/Google Italy), Alessandro Schintu (Chile) and Roberto Amoroso (Sky Italia) who acted as the speakers in charge of investigating the current market situation and new models of business.
On the subject, Amoroso said that “the great difference between SKY Italia and pay television channels (Tele+ e Stream) is that since its conception in 2003, 80% of funding for Sky has come directly from consumers and only 20% from advertising. It is precisely because of this that Sky has a responsibility to make spectators happy as opposed to feel like intruders. This is why the channel has started making one or two projects a year focusing on quality.”
According to Sebastian Becker, who spoke on behalf of media agency tbb – thebrainbehind GmbH, there is a need to reflect “starting from the production and creation of content phases, as well as distribution platforms and audiovisual products, which go beyond classic movie theatre distribution. Foreseeing production material for trailers and briefer formats can be of little use in initial phases but can be a blessing further down the line.”
