06/05/2014 - It’s eight hands on deck for Gabriel Abrantes, Marie Losier, Denis Côté and Dominga Sotomayor as they shoot a film on Portugal’s capital

Portugal’s Gabriel Abrantes will direct one of the four parts of Em Lisboa

This week, Portuguese director Gabriel Abrantes, France’s Marie Losier, Canadian director Denis Côté and Chilean filmmaker Dominga Sotomayor begin shooting an omnibus film that is focused primarily on the Portuguese capital, with filming set to continue until August.

Provisionally titled Em Lisboa (lit. In Lisbon), the movie will have a Portuguese crew and is produced by Festival IndieLisboa in co-production with the Lisbon city council; the intention is to publicise both the city and the competition.

The project stems from an idea that Miguel Valverde and Nuno Sena, the directors of IndieLisboa, came up with during the 10th edition of the festival. However, it is only now, following the end of the 11th edition this weekend (read the news), that filming has begun, with an estimated release date of 2015.

The choosing of the four directors is related to their connections with IndieLisboa. Marie Losier and Dominga Sotomayor made off with the festival’s Grand Prix for the films The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye [+see also:

film profile] (2011) and De jueves a domingo (2012), respectively. Meanwhile, Gabriel Abrantes and Denis Côté are also regular fixtures in the competition – this year they presented Ennui Ennui and Que ta joie demeure, respectively.
