The EU will discuss simultaneous, multiplatform and multi-territory releases at Cannes

The upcoming Cannes Film Festival (14-25 May 2014) is to host a panel called “Simultaneous Multiplatform and Multi-territory Releases: New Approaches for Greater Diversity of Cinema in Europe?” The event, part of the “Circulation of Films in the Digital Era” preparatory action, organised by the European Parliament and the European Commission, will take place on Friday 16 May.

Creative Europe’s head of unit, Xavier Troussard, will introduce the event, which will also include the presentation of the independent report “New Approaches for Greater Diversity of Cinema in Europe, Analyses of Experiments Launched in the Context of the Preparatory Action”, by CNRS researcher and affiliate professor at HEC Paris Thomas Paris.

Curzon Film World, Wild Bunch and L’ARP are participating in the preparatory action, through their respective groupings EDAD, SPEED BUNCH and TIDE. Its aim is to investigate innovative strategies for the dissemination of European films (cinema screenings, DVDs, video on demand, festivals, television channels and so on), so that they can cross national borders and reach wider audiences more easily.
