08/05/2014 - Germany, the UK and France are amongst the finalists for the 2014 Student Academy Awards

The 41st Student Academy Awards sees 23 US schools and ten students from foreign universities selected as finalists. Out of the ten foreign nominations, eight come from European film schools. These include two from Germany (from the University of Television and Film Munich, and the Hamburg Film School) and the UK (with the National Film and Television School, and the Northern Film School both represented), alongside the Netherlands, France, Slovenia and Denmark. The Student Academy Awards Nominating Committee screened and voted on the finalists in the Foreign Film category.

The Student Academy Awards was founded in 1972 to “support and encourage excellence in filmmaking at the collegiate level”. Academy members will now vote to determine up to three winning films in each category. The winners, but not their medals, will be announced later this month. The winning students will be brought to Los Angeles for a week of industry activities and social events that will culminate in the awards ceremony on Saturday 7 June at 6 pm, at the DGA Theater in Hollywood, at which time the gold, silver and bronze medallists will be revealed.
