DSAT Cinema first satellite live broadcast of 4K high frame rate content for theatrical screenings

DSAT Cinema announced they have successfully performed for the first time a satellite live broadcast of 4K Ultra High Definition content in High Frame Rate encoded in HEVC format, on a digital cinema projection system designed for theatrical screenings.

With its partners, Eutelsat, Sony 4K Digital Cinema and International Datacasting, DSAT Cinema, the leading European platform for live broadcast in cinema theatres, has achieved a new milestone in the history of the event cinema industry by transmitting live 4K UHD (3840 x 2160 pixels) content encoded in H265 HEVC format and in High Frame Rate (HFR) (the transmission was in 50 fps but the solution is designed to go up to 60fps) with up 10 bits of colour depth (1 billion colours).

Fabrice Testa, CEO of DSAT Cinema said “Live 4K HFR transmission is the new way to go for live providers and cinema operators. Cinema live events will be rendered to the audience in optimal conditions allowing a true premium viewing experience. Dancers spinning their partners around, pop stars jumping on the stage or sport athletes surpassing themselves will be offered to the public witsmooth, dynamic, colorful and accurate images.”
