will represent Belgium at the Cannes Film Festival. Thomas de Thier’s directorial debut was selected for Directors’ Fortnight, the prestigious sidebar section to the festival proper and the international launching pad for a number of Belgian talents like Jaco Van Dormael (Toto le Héros), the brothers Dardennes (La Promesse) and Benoît Mariage (Les convoyeurs attendent). Des Plumes Dans Le Tête is a Magellan Production film is about a family coping with the death of a son in a drowning accident.

Numerous Belgian co-productions were selected for the 56th edition of Cannes. Two Belgian minority interest co-productions by Belgian production slate, Entre Chien et Loup: Mille Mois by Faouzi Bensaïdi selected for Un Certain Regard and Depuis qu'Otar by Julie Bertuccelli in Critics’ Week. The latter was co-produced by Les Films du Fleuve (owned by the Dardennes) and was made on location mostly in Belgium. Stormy Weather [+see also:

by Solveig Anspach will screen in Certain Regard while the animated feature, Les Triplettes de Belleville [+see also:

by Sylvain Chomet, will screen out of competition.
Belgium’s Olivier Gourmet, winner of the best actor accolade at last year’s festival, will be back on the Croisette to present Wolfzeit by Michael Haneke, out of competition. Bosnian-born Belgian film director, Danis Tanovic is on the Cannes jury.
