It already operates under its own brand in France, the UK and Germany in the fields of distribution and production; now, StudioCanal (which is 100% owned by Canal+), a major player in the international sales sector and the holder of a catalogue of over 5,000 titles, is intensifying its European expansion strategy towards the north of the Old Continent. Welcomed enthusiastically by the managers of the two companies (Olivier Courson and Jonas Fors), the so-called output deal now gives SF all of the distribution rights for new StudioCanal films for Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland. Also falling into Svensk Filmindustri’s lap are the digital distribution rights for StudioCanal’s catalogue of titles. Furthermore, the two new partners will work as co-producers on Nordic English-language films initiated by SF, which will handle their distribution in Scandinavian countries, while StudioCanal will take care of their international sales. In this respect, two feature films are already in development: the English-language remake of Easy Money (Snabba Cash) [+see also:

film profile] and the thriller The White Island by Jens Jonsson (for which the plot will be set in Ibiza). Two TV series are also in the pipeline: the thriller The Lawyer (screenplay by Hans Rosenfeldt and Michael Hjorth in collaboration with Jens Lapidus) and The Ambassador, featuring a story by renowned novelist Henning Mankell. All of these projects will commence production in 2015.
