MEETINGS Belgium

Diversity in EU films

by

"Europe did not present a united front during the recent war between the US/UK coalition and Iraq. The fragility and lack of internal cohesion revealed itself in a most disturbing way. At this point, cultural issues take on a whole new dimension, " said Richard Miller Belgium’s culture minister. In light of these events, CIVA and the Film Museum have organised a day-long series of meetings to discuss "Uni-diversity of European Cinema" on 2 May at the CIVA HQ.
The first seminar will examine the question of "European cinema and the diversity of European nations" before a VIP audience lead by Miller, directors Jean-Claude Batz and Jean-Jacques Adrien, producer and festival director, Dominique Janne, professor Claude Bailblé and journalist, Fabian Maray. The second one will be on the subject of "Cinema beyond the frontiers of Europe" and those taking part include directors Bassek Ba Khobio, Mourad Boucif, Michel Khlefi, Jacek Bromski and Krzysztof Zanussi as well as the president of Eurocinema, Yvon Thiec. The third will analyse "The influence of production conditions on artistic choice" with directors Vincent Lannoo, Joao Coréa, Marc-Henri Wajnberg and writer Luc Jabon. The event will end with a reception at the Museum of Film dedicated to the memory of André Delvaux, with special guests, Marie-Christine Barrault and Alain Berliner.
