AWARDS France

Civeyrac wins Jean Vigo

by

Toutes ces belles promesses, the sixth feature film directed by Jean-Paul Civeyrac paid dividends when it won him the prestigious Jean Vigo award. The film was produced by Les Films Pelléas and stars Jeanne Balibar and Bulle Ogier.

The award was set up in memory of Jean Vigo (L’Atalante and Zéro de conduite) died in 1934 aged just 29, and it is given to a film that blazed for its free spirit and originality. The Vigo award is assigned by a jury of critics and exhibitors and past winners include some of French cinema’s greatest “names”: Claude Chabrol, Maurice Pialat, Alain Resnais, Jean-Luc Godard as well as more recent winners like Olivier Assayas, Claire Devers, Cédric Kahn and Alain Guiraudie.
Last year’s winning film, Royal Bonbon by Charles Njaman, produced by Les Films du Requin, is scheduled for a domestic release onto 15 French screens on 7 May, by courtesy of Gemini Films. This year’s winner of the Vigo short film award was La Coupure by Nathalie Loubeyre.
