PRODUCTION France

Romain Duris as "Arsène Lupin"

by

Jean-Paul Salomé (Belphégor, le fantôme du Louvre) is currently in the pre-production phase of a new film about one of France’s most popular fictional characters, Arsène Lupin, the gentleman thief who was created by novelist Maurice Leblanc and based on "The Countess of Cagliostro" . Produced by Hugo Films, the new film will star Romain Duris (L’auberge espagnole, Gadjo Dilo) who succeeds Jean-Claude Brialy, the protagonist of Arsène Lupin contre Arsène Lupin directed in 1962 by Edouard Molinaro. The new film will is scheduled to go into production this summer on location in Normandy and will co-star Kristin Scott Thomas (The English Patient) and François Berléand ( Mon idole).
This will be Jean-Paul Salomé’s fourth feature and will portray Arsène Lupin as a young man in his twenties. The main theme of this film is a love duel. This production has already attracted huge industry attention because past films featuring the Arsène Lupin character have done extremely well at the box office. In addition, the presence of Jean-Paul Salomé on this project is also likely to contribute to its success: his Belphagor was seen by 2 million filmgoers in France and 420,000 in Spain.
