An Iguana’s life for Andrea Renzi
After his success in Extra Man and Ilaria Alpi, the latest film project for Italian actor Andrea Renzi is entitled Iguana. It is also the directorial feature
debut of the acclaimed documentary maker, Catherine McGilvray. Based on a novel Anna Maria Ortese wrote in 1965, Iguana is scheduled to go into production in August. Ortese, who died in 1998, used the metaphor of a half human half reptilian female iguana to portray the solitude and anxiety that women experience.
The screenplay was written by Cesare Landricina and MediaLand are to produce the film on location in Portugal and the Eolian Islands off Sicily.
Iguana received funding under the terms of Article 8 thanks largely to McGilvray’s excellent professional standing and her fame as a documentary maker in Belgium, France and Italy.
