Leos Carax visits Vilnius ahead of retrospective at 20th Vilnius IFF

The Vilnius International Film Festival has announced the first programme for its 20th edition, due to be held between 19 March and 2 April 2015.
The festival will provide a focus on French director Leos Carax, with a full retrospective of his work. The programme will range from the “Alex trilogy” – Boy Meets Girl (1984), The Night Is Young (1986) and The Lovers on the Bridge (1991) – to later titles such as Pola X (1999) and, of course, Holy Motors [+see also:

film profile] (2012). The retrospective will also include Tessa Louise-Salomé’s documentary on Carax, Mr Leos CaraX [+see also:
film profile] (2014).
Carax first visited Vilnius International Film Festival in 1996 and recently returned to hold a screening of Holy Motors in anticipation of the forthcoming retrospective. The screening, held at the Forum Cinemas Vingis in the centre of Vilnius, was followed by a Q&A between Carax and Kristupas Sabolius, a Lithuanian philosopher and the screenwriter for the recent Lithuanian hit The Gambler [+see also:

Kino Pavasaris – as the Vilnius IFF is also known – is the largest cinematic event in Lithuania, known and loved for its high-quality film programme and rich accompanying package of cinema-related events, workshops and special initiatives. In March every year, Vilnius IFF presents more than 200 films, and in 2014, almost 100,000 people attended the gathering.
