European Shooting Stars will shine brightly at Berlin

With the presentation of the European Shooting Stars at the Berlin International Film Festival, Hamburg-based European Film Promotion provides an annual platform to showcase the talents of up-and-coming young actors who have already been recognised in their home countries. This year, an international jury has chosen ten newcomers who will follow in the footsteps of previous Shooting Stars, such as Daniel Craig, Daniel Brühl and Elio Germano.

Already a rising star in Germany, Jannis Niewöhner (profile) played the lead in the best-selling fantasy time-travel adventures Ruby Red [+see also:

. The Finnish-German co-production The Girl King by Mika Kaurismäki marks his debut in an international feature. Meanwhile, Swiss actor Sven Schelker (profile) already put in an impressive appearance at the Berlinale 2014 in the prize-winning drama The Circle [+see also:

Great Britain is sending 17-year-old Game of Thrones actress Maisie Williams (profile) to Berlin, where she will have a chance to catch up with her Irish co-star Moe Dunford (profile) from HBO's hit TV series.

The ten talents have been selected by an international jury that includes actress Eva Röse (Maria Wern), British journalist Damon Wise (Empire magazine), Polish director Malgorzata Szumowska (Elles [+see also:

). In total, the EFP member states nominated 23 European newcomers from all over the continent. 

At the 65th Berlin International Film Festival, the Shooting Stars will participate in meet-and-greet sessions with international industry representatives such as agents, casting directors and filmmakers. Besides the networking events, they will give interviews to the international media. The most glamorous highlight will be the red-carpet ceremony at the Berlinale Palast and a special awards ceremony, followed by a reception.
