11/02/2015 - BERLIN 2015: The Nordic and Baltic distributor has acquired seven “quality features for an upmarket audience”

Stockholm-based Nordic and Baltic distributor NonStop Entertainment has – preliminarily – concluded a shopping spree at the Berlin International Film Festival, signing up for a package of “international quality fare for an upmarket audience”. 

Represented at the European Film Market by acquisitions manager Jakob Abrahamsson and distribution manager Johannes Glaumann, NonStop has purchased five features to launch in Scandinavia (Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland), Iceland and the Baltics (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania), including: 

-UK director Peter Strickland’s drama The Duke of Burgundy [+see also:

film profile] (from Protagonist Pictures), starring Danish actress Sidse Babett Knudsen in a “much-needed BDSM masterpiece in the Fifty Shades of Grey era”.

-US director Justin Simien’s award-winning feature debut, Dear White People (from The Exchange), “a highly entertaining satire about the tensions between black and white kids at an Ivy League college”.

In the Nordic countries, including Iceland, NonStop will release: 

-Spanish director Julio Medem’s Ma Ma (from Seville International), Spanish actress Penélope Cruz’s first outing as a producer, in which she stars as a woman seeking unexpected experiences to compensate for a great loss.

-Egyptian director Atom Egoyan’s Devil’s Knot (from The Weinstein Company), starring Colin Firth and Reese Witherspoon in a crime drama about a group of teenagers accused of the savage murder of three young children, as part of a satanic ritual.
