British actor Eddie Redmayne added the Academy Award for Actor in a Leading Role to his already bulging trophy bag for his portrayal of Dr Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything [+see also:

film profile] and Italian veteran Milena Canonero who won the Costume Design award for the same film.

The triumphal awards run of Richard Linklater’s Boyhood came to a halt at the Oscars, save for the expected Actress in a Supporting Role statuette for Patricia Arquette. Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) won him the Directing award and the film also won Best Picture. JK Simmons won Actor in a Supporting Role for Whiplash, a category he has made his own this awards season, as has Julianne Moore the Actress category for Still Alice, which she duly won.
