A green call for Cagliari

More than 40 film professionals from Italy and various other European countries are expected as speakers at the European Cinema and Audiovisual Days 2015 in Cagliari, Sardinia, which kicks off on 26 February. At this four-day event on the Italian island, the conference participants will discuss green production approaches and the kinds of challenges that sustainable production poses for creative industries.

Hosted by Nevina Satta, CEO of the Sardegna Film Commission, the event will have an agenda featuring hot topics that focus above all on the situation in Italy. A discussion on the role of public institutions in supporting green practices in Sardinia and an examination of various case studies will be followed by a round-table with Italian directors such as Peter Marcias and Paolo Zucca, as well as producer Camillo Esposito

Sustainability at the regional and national levels is also an issue in several other European countries. Among the speakers are Siebe Dumon, head of training and research at the Flanders Audiovisual Fund, Ecoprod coordinator Joanna Gallardo, Renée van der Grinten from the Netherlands Film Fund and Maureen Prins, founder of the Solar Cinema initiative, which offers open-air screenings thanks to a solar-powered projector.

The role that festivals can play in helping creative industries to go green will also be discussed, as will the question of how content producers can co-operate with organic farmers. Among the films that will be screened are the documentary Seedversity by Elisabetta Tola, and Lost in the Country by Luca and Davide Melis

The European Cinema and Audiovisual Days conference is supported by the European Union and the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism in Italy.
