During East Doc Platform, the key industry meeting of documentary filmmakers, the Institute of Documentary Film will introduce a new international project, focused on an alternative means of distribution for creative documentaries, KineDok, on 6 March, 2015 in Prague, Czech Republic.

“KineDok wants to bring the documentary genre closer to the general audience, build a community of like-minded people and keep them in the loop with the filmmakers and update them about what is new in the documentary world,” explains Jana Ripplová, KineDok project manager.

The project is understood as a series of screenings of 12 thought-provoking East and Central European documentaries followed by debates with the filmmakers at more than twenty non-traditional venues in each of the participating countries: Czech Republic, Croatia, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia. Local distributors and people interested in documentary film will be the driving force of the project, freeing documentaries from the sterile walls of generic cinemas and bringing them to more intimate spaces, such as clubs, cafes or social centres.

The films selected for the pilot edition will include Oscar-nominated short film Joanna, about a blogging mother who is dying, Daniel’s World [+see also:
