Interstellar soars at the Empire Awards

film profile] has won Best Film and Best Director at the 20th Empire Awards. British actor Andy Serkis won Best Actor for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes while British actress Rosamund Pike won Best Actress for Gone Girl. The cast of HBO’s Game of Thrones, largely shot in Northern Ireland, was presented with the Empire Hero Award, the first time an Empire Award has gone to a television show. British actor Ralph Fiennes was accorded the Empire Legend honour. Taron Egerton was named Best Male Newcomer for starring in Kingsman: The Secret Service [+see also:

film profile], and the film also won Best British Film.
The Empire Awards are the only awards in the UK where the winners are decided by the votes of the cinema-going public.
