Already sold to 18 countries, the film by Francesco Munzi, which was presented in competition at the Venice Film Festival, is attaining a great deal of success in Spain: from today, the distributor will increase the print run of the film (released in the country under the title Calabria) by 25%. After coming out last week, the movie has already established itself as the third-highest per-theatre average grosser at the box office.
In the newspapers El País and El Mundo, critics Carlos Boyero and Luis Martínez have chosen it as “film of the week”, enthusiastically showering it with praise. Días de Cine has described it as being among the ten best movies released in Spain this year. Finally, Time Out Barcelona calls it a “magnificent film that resonates deeply on a moral level, and is tinged with dust and blood”.
