(2008). For his return to the big screen, after having made forays into the world of TV series (he worked on several episodes of Borgia, The Tunnel and Versailles), the director has chosen to adapt the novel Le cas Sneijder by Jean-Paul Dubois and to offer the lead role to French actor Thierry Lhermitte (nominated for the Lumière Award for Best Actor in 2014 for The French Minister [+see also:

Written by the director together with Yaël Cojot-Goldberg, the story revolves around the character of Paul Sneijder, the sole survivor of a lift accident in which his daughter lost her life. Ever since that day, his perception of reality has been enhanced, as if someone had turned up the volume of the din produced by the world around him. But how can he go on living with his tyrannical wife who is cheating on him and his children who despise him? He makes a start by switching occupation: a dog walker, now that’s an appealing prospect. And lots of other things besides… A new life seems to be beckoning...

Produced by Thierry Wong and Pierre Forette for Paris-based company Ciné Nominé, La nouvelle vie de Paul Sneijder is co-produced by Canada’s Productions Caramel Film. Having kicked off at the beginning of March, the shoot will continue until 20 April in Montreal, before the cast and crew head to Dubai to film a sequence in the lift of one of the tallest buildings in the world.
