The Treasure follows two men as they face a series of misadventures in their quest to find a treasure. Shooting took place last autumn. The main characters are played by Toma Cuzin and two non-professional actors, Adrian Purcărescu and Corneliu Cozmei, who were selected by Porumboiu after a three-month casting process.
Co-produced by Porumboiu's 42 Km Film, and co-produced by Les Films du Worso and Rouge International, the film received a grant of approximately €350,000 from the Romanian National Film Center in 2014. Wild Bunch handles the film internationally. A domestic release is set for 29 May.
Written by Radu Muntean together with his traditional writing partners, Răzvan Rădulescu and Alexandru Baciu, One Floor Below focuses on Pătraşcu (Teodor Corban), a middle-aged man who is the sole witness to a domestic quarrel that ends in murder. The drama will follow how the tragic event changes the protagonist. The film was produced by Multimedia Est, with France's Les Films de l'Après-midi and Sweden's Bleck Film & TV AB on board as co-production companies.
