German world sales agent Beta Cinema has inked its first deals at the Film Market of the Cannes Film Festival. Among the company’s market premieres is the family entertainment feature Ghosthunters: On Icy Trails [+see also:

, Robot Overlords) and an animated ghost try to save the world from the Ancient Ice Ghost. The movie was sold to eOne for the US and Canada, Altitude Distribution in Great Britain, Notorious in Italy, and Transmission for Australia and New Zealand. Further sales include to the Middle East, Israel, Turkey, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and the former Yugoslavia.

The Sundance Audience Award winner Umrika, with Life of Pi star Suraj Sharma and Tony Revolori (The Grand Budapest Hotel [+see also:

), was acquired by ARP Selection in France, Ascot Elite for the German-speaking territories, and Vendetta Films for Australia and New Zealand. Umrika was also picked up for Portugal, Poland, Israel, the former Yugoslavia, South Korea and Taiwan.

Beta Cinema is also handling the pre-sales for the comedy-drama Vincent and the End of the World [+see also:

won three awards in the 2008 Cannes Critics’ Week. His new film is about a 17-year-old environmental activist who drives his family crazy with his preaching about them having to reduce their carbon footprint – and he makes a point about it by attempting suicide several times.
